EFT tapping, emotional freedom technique, meridian tapping, these are all names that apply to a very simple technique that helps to clear disruptions in your energy field caused by long held emotional issues.
EFT was the short name coined to describe this tapping method also known as the emotional freedom technique.
This energy healing method was mainly developed by Gary Craig who did a lot of work on it, and named it EFT.
These days many people call it just tapping, and the term meridian tapping is also used. This is because when you do tapping, you tap on the meridians through which energy moves in the body.
Many of you will have heard about meridians from your acupuncturists as she or he uses these lines to place the needles into.
First there was a lot of work done by Dr Roger Callaghan on this subject, which got the interest of Gary Craig. It was Gary's work that really started the ball rolling on the use of this natural health technique.
At first he called it by its full name, but as it was such a mouthful, the emotional freedom technique, Gary Craig renamed it EFT.
So what does EFT do? This technique aims to free you from blocked emotions that are causing the proper flow of energy around and through your body to be disrupted.
The use of energy meridians are now quite well-known, as it is this energy flow that acupuncture uses, when they place needles in specific points to aid health problems.
If you have ever had an EEG you will see the electrical activity within the brain on the screen, so science is aware of this energy and its importance to the health of the body.
Gary Craig states that the essence behind tapping EFT, is embodied within what he calls the Discovery statement (below).
If you look at what you are working on achieving by using EFT Tapping, it is to fix this disruption in the energy system of the body.
Emotionally charged experiences change the energy system, and tapping can clear the disruption that was caused by whatever originally caused it to be disrupted.
Sound simple? It is easy to do, but sometimes its hard to find the issue that caused the disruption.
The types of health issues that may be helped by EFT include a number of quite diverse problems, including PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder.
You will use a series of tapping points to tap on, located on meridian points on the face and the body. In the chart to the right you can see the face points that you are going to be tapping on.
Common problems that many people have, relate to family relationships, and feelings of anger towards a family member, that may go back to childhood.
Or they may relate to another person who hurt you in some way, and this disrupted your energy field. It doesn't always have to be what you might call a "big" issue to cause disruption.
There is a saying in EFT circles, "Use it on anything!" Whatever the issue, and even if you can't really remember it very clearly, tap on it.
All sorts of issues that have caused disruption of your energy have the potential to be relieved after doing just a few rounds of EFT or tapping on specific meridian points.

These are all excellent EFT teachers who have expanded on the work of Gary Craig.
The work of Gray Craig has since been used by a great number of excellent practitioners of this energy healing method.
If you want to begin learning EFT, the important thing to understand is it may take some work to relieve the problem you have, yet some issues may be solved extremely easily.

To aid your stress, you can do tapping on your own or with a coach/practitioner or even join a group. I recently heard from a friend who told me about a group she joined that meets in the evening to learn tapping techniques.
If you can find a local group that does this I encourage you to join it, as this is one of the well known typed of alternative medicine that can easily be learned, so you can do it by yourself.
Once you start using it, its very easy to do on your own, and to create major breakthroughs in your emotional healing.
